Cryptocrystalline magnesite with a very low content of silicon and iron, bright white color, with excellent quality and low levels of heavy metals. Contains small crystals and is characterized by a high specific surface area and activity.

Most common uses for raw magnesite are: The production of magnesium oxide by calcining, to produce refractory bricks. Also used in industrial flooring, fireproofing, cosmetics, dusting powder, and toothpaste. Other applications are filler material, smoke suppressant in plastics, a drying agent, etc.

In addition, high purity magnesium carbonate is used as an antacid and as an additive in table salt to keep it free flowing. Magnesium carbonate, most often referred to as 'chalk', is used as a drying agent for hands in rock climbing, gymnastics, and weight lifting.

As a food additive magnesium carbonate is known as E504, for which the only known side effect is that it may work as a laxative in high concentrations. Magnesium carbonate is also used in medical science.
